We will together view and discuss the first showing of course segments from "DIY Weekend Gardens". (The second showing will be Sunday, May 2.) See DIY Weekend Gardens flyer for details.
The second showing of "The Flower Kitchen" will also be by Zoom or by Dine-In on Sunday April 11 as described above and detailed in its flyer.
All proceeds go to the educational and charitable volunteer pursuits of District VII of the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania.
Area Flex-time workers and all who like gardening, you are invited to join the Garden Club of Monroeville! Our club's next meeting is monthly on the fourth Tuesday, March 23, 4:30-6:30 PM, by Zoom and in person at Bethel Presbyterian Church hall on Beatty Road. Our program will be the care and pruning of "Roses".

Since 2018, on the last Saturday of April, GCM members recycle their unwanted items and advertise Independence Court's Earth Day Flea Market, which benefits the Garden Club of Monroeville.
NGC Goal: Promote Recycling and Conservation
Since 2018, we host an annual garden sale on the first Saturday in May to help area residents with their plant, pot and seed needs. Many of the plants are now grown from seed, transplanted from nurseries or dug from club members' gardens. Plants include unusual flower and vegetable seeds, herbs and tree saplings. This fundraising event will also feature designer decoupage clay pots and all-season wreaths.
NGC Goal: Promote Gardening Projects
In June, several of our members each manage a picnic table with a free craft for the hundreds of kids attending the Monroeville Arts Council's "Kids Art in the Park."
NGC Goal: Promote Gardening and Floral Design Among Youth
The Club has maintained two gardens for over fifty years. One is located at University Park’s intersection of College Park Drive and Beatty Road while the other is located at Illini Drive and Elliot Road. As of May 2018, the newest is the Pollinator Garden located behind Monroeville Library!

To raise public awareness and encourage membership, the GCM sponsors and attends public presentations AND field trips to discuss gardening related topics at no charge at the Monroeville Library Gallery Space or Boyce Park. See the 2019 Meeting Calendar on this website.
NGC Goals: Promote Youth and Adult Horticulture and Environment Education
GCM annually supports District VII by its four active memberships on its Board of Directors. Since 2015, S. Brody has served as the District's Scholarship Chairman as well as Co-President of the GCM. M. Backus served as Recording Secretary (2011-2014), Assistant District Director (DD) (2014-2016), District VII Director (2016-2018) and is currently GCM Co-President, Assistant DD, District Awards Chair and GCFP Awards Chair. A. Madray serves as GCM Treasurer and District Treasurer. N. Philpot serves as GCM Recording Secretary and GCFP Assistant Awards Chair.
The GCM supports the annual Spring Membership Tea and Fall Annual Meeting through volunteerism, raffle and other donations as well as "Trash to Treasure" entries. Members also participate in GCFP educational studies in gardening, environmental and flower show schools.
Members participated in planning the special and educational exhibits for the 2014 GCFP Convention held in Monroeville in April 2014, and contributed exhibits at recent GCFP Conventions.

(2016 – Monroeville Public Library Elevator Fund AND Helene Detwiler Scholarship Fund (Dotty York) (2015 – GCFP Scholarship Fund as part of Shirley Brody's GCFP Life Pin gift) (2014 – Monroeville Historical Society) (2013 – American Red Cross) In 2012, GCM Silk Butterflies Were Sent to Houston's Holocaust Museum. (2009-2012 – “Building New Hope” in Nicaragua**The Club financially supported “Building New Hope,” a 501(c)(3) organization based in Pittsburgh, PA, and Granada, Nicaragua by purchasing their products and advertising their wares. “Building New Hope” actively assists communities — primarily in El Salvador and Nicaragua — by selling fairly traded organic coffee and operating alternative schools and literacy programs for underserved and at-risk youth. In 2008, the charity was recognized by the U.S. Center for Citizen Diplomacy for outstanding achievement in development of resources and citizen diplomacy. View the organization's work on Youtube.)

GCM's applicant from Woodland Hills won the GCFP's "Mary Alice Wheeler Scholarship" of $1000 in 2014.
GCM sponsored a Plum Boro senior in 2015 who won the GCFP DOREEN DEW-KAUFMAN SCHOLARSHIP AWARD of $1,000. Although the 2015 winner re-applied in 2016, he did not win a scholarship, but applied again in 2017. Penn State Sophomore Philip Steven Mahr of Plum Boro won The Marjorie E. Hamblin Scholarship of $1,000. The District Director accepted his award at the GCFP Convention.
NGC Goal: Promote Horticulture and Enviroment Education Among Youth
GCM sponsored two contests in 2016 at Divine Mercy Academy, formerly St. Bernadette's School, where Third Graders participated in the Smokey Bear Poster Contest to learn the five rules of fire prevention. The Fifth Graders participated in a Poetry Contest themed "Bees, Butterflies and Me " in 2016, "Let It Grow" (2017), and "Pop Goes the Seed" (2018) and "Adventures in My Garden" (2019). Fifth Graders also competed in the Youth Sculpture Contest 2017 and 2019 (see site's sidebars).
